EQUIPMENT

As a member of a competitive club you are required to have the following equipment brought to each session preferably in a mesh bag large enough to contain all of your equipment. All equipment can be purchased through Lynne on request.

Training swimwear
Please do not wear board shorts (these create drag and can be hazardous in a lane training situation) or bikinis ! Regulation bathers are required at all times. Preferably no bracelets of any kind as they can be hazardous if a passing swimmer catches their fingers in them.

Cap
A latex or silicone swim cap is worn to cut down the during ALL training sessions.

Goggles
Swimmers wear these during practices and meets to enhance vision and protect the eyes from the chemicals in the water. It is important that the goggles fit correctly and are adjusted to fit xo they do not come off when diving in to the water. Please check your goggles before going to any meets or galas.

Water Bottles
Containing water of diluted juice to prevent dehydration during training sessions. No fizzy or high sugar content drinks please! Due to hygiene reasons please mark your bottles clearly with your name. We all lose water when we sweat even in swimming. You may not be aware of it as your body is already wet. The more sweat the more water you lose and this can lead to dehydration and may cause cramp.

Fins (flippers)
These are part of your training equipment and can be purchased through the club.

Pull Bouy
Training aid to assist in upper body work whilst eliminating the leg kick.

Kick Board
Training aid for improving the leg kick.

T Bag (Official club shirt)
To be worn at all swimming competitions and Academy Championships to keep swimmers smart and warm on poolside between events. The T Bag is a quick drying airtex shirt that can be purchased through the club.
Please ask if you wish to order the full kit ( fins, kick board, pull bouy and T bag and bag )

ADVICE ON GOING TO GALAS

Top tips:-

1) Have a light breakfeast before going to the competition – whole grain cereals, fresh fruit, toast with fat free toppings, but don’t skip breakfeast !, swimming on an empty stomach makes you feel like you do not have any energy. However you must eat 2 or 3 hours before a competition.

2) Before leaving home...have you checked?
Bathers
Towels - you may want to bring 2 so you have one on poolside and one for when you get changed at the end

3) Hat

4) Goggles – make sure they fit, and maybe have a spare pair if you have them

5) Club T Bag to wear on poolside

6) Bring lots of fluids to drink as poolside can be hot and humid

7) Arrive at least 15 mins before warm up
